As a long hot southern day comes to an end - Francis Lawrence @Hibbits, director of 'Water For Elephants' tweeted that the principal filming of the film was a wrap.  However, one main actor of the film, maintains his graciousness and smiles and waves to the waiting fans as he leaves the set for the last time.

Comparing Breaking Dawn release dates to LOTR & Star Wars (the Bestie does it again!!)

Shiny Volvo Owner

On Tuesday 3rd August 2010, @callsignC30 said:

Seeing all of the complaining going on about 'Breaking Dawn' of course encouraged me to do a little research for some perspective on the situation. I used two different movie franchises for comparison:

'Lord of the Rings'

- took 8 years to produce from concept to theater

- filmed over 438 CONSECUTIVE days at over 150 locations

- pickups shot annually from 2001 - 2004

- All three films released almost exactly one year apart. (And let me tell you, as a Ringer myself, that was a LONG wait but so well worth it.)

'Star Wars'

- Each film released every THREE years, from 1977 to 1983. Then came the prequels, which means that the Star Wars franchise has run from 1977 until 1995.

Think about all of the other movie franchises based off of books that we can compare: James Bond; Bourne; Harry Potter; Star Trek.

We can all argue that these franchises are different from Twilight, but I say they're not. They are all based on a book series and each have a very devoted fan base much like ours (ok, maybe not Bourne but you get my point).

And of course it is all about money, but when is it not?

I'm a selfish Twihard and I want there to be no competition for our movie. Had it had a summer release, the competition would have been huge.

More importantly, if taking longer to produce makes a more quality film then please take all the time you want!

In short, IMO we have nothing to complain about...as usual.

A house on West Cove Road in Kensington, just south of Chickamauga, will be used in the upcoming movie “Water for Elephants.”

"Water for Elephants” will star Robert Pattinson (famous as Edward Cullen in the “Twilight Saga” series) and Reese Witherspoon. The movie, based on a novel by the same name, is set during the Great Depression. Pattinson plays a poor, newly orphaned veterinary school student who joins up with a traveling circus. Witherspoon plays one of the circus performers.

Crews and the two stars are expected to be on the scene Friday morning for filming. According to news reports, roads will be blocked and security will be heavy.

The house, which has not been lived in for 12 years and has no electricity or running water, belongs to a north Georgia family. The owners were told the house is perfect for scenes for the 1930s-era film.

Equipment for filming the movie is being held at the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel. Meanwhile, fans have already spotted Pattinson in Chattanooga.

'The Twilight Saga' May Be Hollywood's Most Successful Film Franchise

While "The Twilight Saga" is undoubtedly beloved its fans, it's hard to argue that the fanbase will be able to turn it into one of the highest grossing film franchises out there. Sure, Summit said that "Eclipse" got more guys to the cinemas than the previous two films, but we doubt that is going to translate into higher box office revenue for the two "Breaking Dawn" films.

But even though "The Twilight Saga" isn't the highest grossing film series, TheWrap argues that it is the most financially successful. How can "Twilight" be more successful than "Harry Potter," "Pirates of the Caribbean" or "The Lord of the Rings," you might ask? Because they're so dirt cheap to make.

"Twilight" only cost $37 million to make, back when Summit thought they were backing a small indie film adaptation. The film went on to gross more than $392.5 million worldwide, which meant Summit was willing to give filmmaker Chris Weitz a slightly larger budget to film "New Moon."

But still, "New Moon," with all its CGI and gorgeous aerial shots, only cost $50 million to make, and grossed over $709.7 million worldwide. And even though "Eclipse" cost $68 million to make, it earned that back in its opening day, and has grossed more than $275 million in six days.

Compared to that, TheWrap reports that the first film in each of the "LotR," "Pirates" and "Harry Potter" films cost around $100 million to make ($93 million, $140 million and $125 million respectively), with costs increasing on each of the films to an impressive $300 million for "At World's End," which barely made that money back in domestic release, and "Half-Blood Prince," which cost $250 million to make and earned back just under a billion worldwide.

And even though the two "Breaking Dawn" films are going to cost about $100 million a piece, at the rate the "Twilight" films are making money, they're still going to make probably seven or eight times as much as they cost to produce. Experts doubt that "Eclipse" will likely beat out "New Moon" by much in the box office, but even so, Summit will have made more than $600 million in box office profits.

TheWrap also references the way "Twilight" has almost single-handedly saved clothing store Hot Topic as well as revived the soundtrack industry. They even mention MTV's old "Twilight Tuesdays," which were used to promote "Twilight" back in 2008 by releasing fresh content every Tuesday leading up until the film's release.

So haters can keep on hating, but "The Twilight Saga" will likely go down in history as the smartest move a film production company ever took, and many other ones will try to emulate its success for years to come.

Are you surprised to find that "The Twilight Saga" is one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood? Comment below!
