'Twilight' fans are on Team Meyer
VANCOUVER, B.C. — When Stephenie Meyer walks into a room of Twilight fans, there's no doubt she's their undisputed vampire queen.
Ten lucky Twilight fans from around the world have come to this metropolitan Canadian city to meet the mega-selling author whose young-adult novels about an alluring vampire and his human soul mate have entranced them since 2005.
It's hard to say who's enjoying this total Twilight talkfest more — the attendees or the writer.
"I just love having the chance to sit down with a small group of fans," says Meyer, who is looking a little more Hollywood these days and a bit less like a suburban mom of three. "Bigger events are just too nerve-racking."
For this literary star, the days of chatting with a few fans at a local bookstore are over. Meyer is an international celebrity. Her books sell in dozens of countries. The film versions are hotly anticipated. Fan sites have gone viral.
This two-day chat fest with Meyer, which took place last Friday and Saturday, was a top-secret affair. Even the attendees weren't told where in the world they'd be meeting with Meyer until after they were notified they were among the chosen 10.
But every Twilight fan intuitively knows why Vancouver, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics, is a logical meeting place — the cast and crew of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2, the final movies based on the four-book series, have been filming here since mid-February.
These die-hard Twi-hards know everything about the paranormal series that centers on the love between Edward Cullen, the sexy vampire portrayed in the films by dreamy Robert Pattinson, and teenage Bella Swan, played by the enigmatic Kristen Stewart.
Ranging in age from 15 to 34, the contest winners include Eden Marie Starnes, 16, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and the sole male winner, Stefan Caes, 26, of Germany, who secretly entered the contest in hopes of winning and surprising his wife, Jenny, also 26, who's here with him.
"We've been together since we were 17, so we see a lot of our story in Edward's and Bella's," says Jenny, who married Stefan nine months ago.
Two fans were chosen in random drawings 0held by Little, Brown for Young Readers, Meyer's publishers in the USA and Canada. The others won contests — which ranged from creating videos to writing essays to completing a Twilight trivia quiz — sponsored by publishers in France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Taiwan, China, Brazil and the U.K.
Super fans, super discussions
In roundtable discussions with Meyer at a Vancouver hotel, the winners discuss with finesse and endless authority vampire anatomy, werewolf legends, the back stories of the series' minor characters and, of course, the Edward/Bella/Jacob love triangle. (Jacob is the werewolf who also loves Bella and is played in the films by the often shirtless Taylor Lautner.)
But like seasoned journalists (many of these fans blog about the series), they're also here to ferret out juicy details: When will Meyer publish a new novel? What's it like being on the Twilight film set? What's new in The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide, a 543-page encyclopedic companion that Little, Brown will publish in hardcover for $24.99 on April 12? (The e-book will be available for $11.99 on April 13.)
Meyer, relaxed and happy to share, tells them plenty:
•On the illustrated guide: "My favorite part is the vampire histories. There's a lot there that's new. Alice's (Cullen) back story is one no one has known until now. And I think fans will be surprised at how much fun (Cullen nemesis) Victoria's story is."
•On whether she'll ever write more books about Edward and Bella: "The story's already been told, and I doubt I'll ever write another series based on the same characters."
•On the possibility she'd ever finish Midnight Sun, a Twilight novel told from Edward's viewpoint that she nixed when parts of it were leaked online in 2008: "I'm hoping to do it someday because I know that's what people want. No matter what book I put out from here to eternity they'll want Midnight Sun, but I'm just not writing about vampires right now."
•On an as-yet-untitled book she might publish next: "It's a fantasy that takes place in another world where people are using bows and arrows and swords. There's a little bit of magic, but it's a very limited form of magic. The characters are human, and some have the ability to use magic and some don't. It's pretty dark. People die. The main character is a 17-year-old girl, and she's kind of cool."
•On another book she might complete and publish: "When I was growing up, I was obsessed with mermaids. I do have a very elaborate outline for a book. I'm not working on it right now, but I have the feeling it's going to be big. It's going to be 1,000 pages."
•On the second book in her three-book adult science-fiction series that began with The Host in 2008: "I have the outline written and the first two chapters. I need to get on it."
What Meyer says about the filming of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, which because of the expansive story line is being told in two parts. (Part 1 is scheduled for release Nov. 18 and Part 2 in November 2012):
•The much-anticipated wedding of Edward and Bella has not been filmed yet, but Stewart is being fitted for the as-yet-unrevealed bridal gown. "It's such an interesting mix," says Meyer. "It has a vintage feel, but at the same time, there's an edge to it. It's really beautiful. And then on Kristen — oh, she looks amazing in clothes —and in that dress she's so lithe and unbelievable."
•On working with Pattinson and Lautner: "Rob is more like Jacob than Edward. He's goofy, he's funny, he doesn't take much seriously. But he can turn Edward on like that (she snaps her fingers) when he needs to be Edward. Taylor's who we hang out with most. He's a lot like fun, happy Jacob."
•On her expanded role as co-producer of the two new movies: "The big difference is just being there and seeing everything. I feel I've seen so much of the movie and really understand what it will look like. There are still a lot of compromises. That hasn't changed. It doesn't make a huge difference, but I have a producer credit, which is crazy."

A Twi Hard Visits Mystic Falls and The Vampire Diaries
My bestie @callsignC30 and I converged upon Mystic Falls this past weekend and what a time we had!
I picked up the bestie Thursday afternoon at the Atlanta Airport and our Fan Girl Trip to Mystic Falls officially began.
On Thursday evening we just drove into Atlanta and visited Olympic Park, tThe CNN world headquarters, and had dinner. It was after all Friday morning when we would actually arrive in Mystic Falls.
The Bestie and I park and begin walking through the area that the production crew were working, much to our surprise we were left to freely roam at will. At this time we were the only two people in the park other than the production crew and a mother and her small child, (funny side note - we thought the mother was just letting her little boy enjoy a beautiful day at the park until we heard him say "mommy not Vampire Diaries again"). After about an hour of freely roaming at will we were approached by a set security guard that inquired as to our reason for being in the park. We were told we would be allowed to stay for filming, but we were asked to not take anymore pictures of the location as this would compromise future episodes.
As time for filming got closer we were joined by about 50 other individuals hoping to get a glimpse of today's filming. Once the director and cast begin to arrive, we were approached by a member of the production team and asked to relocate to a more secure location where we would not disturb the filming that was about to take place.
To make a long story short - we hit the mother lode! At different intervals during the days filming we were visited by different members of the cast to include - Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Matthew Davis, Steven R. McQueen, Kat Graham, and Candice Accola. We were able to interact with them and have pictures taken with all the cast with the exception of Paul and Ian. What a way to spend a day in Mystic Falls!
Follows is some of my pictures of our day in Mystic Falls:

Robert Pattinson Confirms Vamp Caesarean in 'Breaking Dawn'
Exclusive: 'It's nuts!' admits Twilight star
He's currently juggling filming with promotion duties on his new non-vamp flick Water For Elephants, and chatted to TF while in LA.
"Yeah, I’ve done it," RPattz laughed, "I’ve chewed it, spat it out!"
Though he's not allowed to give much more away (joking with Ryan Seacrest recently that he gets 'beaten' for revealing details), Pattinson promises that Breaking Dawn will be "very different to the other films - more like a horror film."
"Just some of the source material makes it inevitably more different. It's completely nuts, the book."

Director and author work closely to tell 'Red Riding Hood' in different formats
The ads for "Red Riding Hood" show Amanda Seyfried dramatically cloaked in a cape, the better to see her in the snowy woods that serve as the backdrop for a story loosely based on the classic fairy tale. But, as the trailers hint, everything is not as it seems.
The movie is also a print novel that was being written even as the filming progressed. It is also a multimedia e-book that leverages the latest technology to enhance the story of a teenage girl torn between two male suitors, one of whom may be a werewolf.
The book debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times children's paperback best-seller list when it was released in late January, serving as a sort of multimedia prequel and pump-primer for the film, directed by Catherine Hardwicke. As an e-book, "Red Riding Hood" includes video interviews with Hardwicke and her collaborators, an animated short film, audio discussion about the set design and props, costume sketches and Hardwicke's hand-drawn maps of where "Red Riding Hood" takes place, among other things.
"I was realizing as we were prepping for the movie that I felt sad for the back stories of these characters. I wanted to know more about those people," Hardwicke said of her decision to transform "Red Riding Hood" into a book.
Hardwicke was inspired by her own success as an author. Her "Twilight: Director's Notebook" was a best-seller when it came out in 2009, four months after the hit film she directed based on the megahit book by Stephenie Meyer.

Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart: Should Twilight continue after Breaking Dawn?
Because there are no more books to base another film on does that mean that they shouldn't make another Twilight movie after Breaking Dawn? If another Twilight movie starred Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart there is no doubt that it would be successful at the box office.
Should the movie studio consider continuing the franchise after Breaking Dawn?

It is not unprecedented to continue a film franchise that was based on a novel without having another book to work from. The first two Jurassic Park films were based on two books by written by Michael Crichton. The third Jurassic Park film was not based on a book but instead was based on a screenplay that was written as a sequel to the first two movies. In the case of Jurassic Park, the third film was a disaster, but that doesn't mean that a good script couldn't be written for another Twilight movie.

Tim Griffin talks about working with Chris Weitz on 'A Better Life' & Taylor Lautner on 'Abduction'
Having read the script for Chris Weitz’s “A Better Life”, I’m intrigued to know who you play in that?
I understand your confusion. Because the story is about an (illegal) immigrant gardener and his teenage son, Luis, who is struggling to survive the twin perils of gangs and immigration agents in East L.A….sounds like the perfect vehicle for a Blonde haired, blue-eyed Irish-American actor born and raised in Chicago, right? Actually, Chris Weitz put together an amazing cast, of mainly Mexican-American actors, many of who are newcomers. I loved the script, and just wanted to be a part of the movie, so Chris asked if I would play Charlie, a world-weary cop who has seen one too many kids grow up to be gang bangers, and ends up unfairly profiling Luis after he gets in a fight at school. I don’t want to give anything away, but it is a heartbreakingly beautiful story.
And “Abduction”, how did you enjoy doing that? What was it like working with Taylor Lautner – has he remained down-to-earth despite his sudden success?
Taylor Lautner, I was happy to discover, remains very down-to-earth in the face of insane fame and notoriety. After spending 4 months trekking across the Carolinas with George Clooney, I’m used to seeing a whole towns full of people come out to watch us film, but the crowds that would gather outside our base camp while filming “Abduction” was a level of hysteria that I was unaccustomed to. People, young girls especially, would camp out for days at a time just to get a glimpse of Taylor. It was like being on tour with the Beatles. And Taylor, like Clooney, couldn’t be nicer to his fans. Stopping whenever possible to sign autographs or take pictures, but invariably it would turn into a frenzy and eventually the security team would have to escort him away. If I was 19 years old, I don’t know if I could handle that level of fame. But Taylor takes it all in stride, and remains grounded. He was a pleasure to work with.
