"There were tears" Kristen Stewart very hard on herself in the filming of THE TWILIGHT SAGAL: ECLIPSE
In an interview with the VANCOUVER SUN, David Slade talks about the cast of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE and how "there were tears" on the set.
VANCOUVER — When David Slade appeared on the pop-culture dais in the wake of his breakout Sundance smash, Hard Candy, featuring a plucky would-be victim in Ellen Page, the last thing you'd expect to learn about the man was his deep conviction in the concept of romantic love.
A story that hung on the threat of sexual assault involving a minor, Hard Candy seemed like such a testament to the baser elements of the human animal that its director assumed the shape of a next-gen Neil Labute — a creator capable of balancing absolute contempt for the human species with an arid sense of humour.
It's a dicey endeavour, but one Slade pulled off with a dramatically elegant sleight of hand.
Slade reached into the same bag of tricks when he called the shots on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which hits DVD and Blu-ray on Saturday.
The story of a young woman named Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who falls madly in love with a vampire stud named Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), only to be hounded by a lovesick werewolf named Jacob (Taylor Lautner), the whole Twilight Saga deals with a young woman at risk.
In this case, Stewart is at risk of losing her mortal soul. In Hard Candy, Page was at risk of losing a similar chunk of self, as well as — we suspected — her life.
"Hard Candy was definitely a different beast in some ways, because it was a contained, two-person drama, with Ellen Page raging away in a brilliant performance," says Slade.
"Eclipse was a lot broader . . . but it's still a character-based drama. That's what I really enjoyed about it," he says. "I think it's also a much more adult film than (the previous two), because the characters are becoming more mature. There's loads of fun stuff to play with, and because we treated it as a drama, the transformation (of character) takes place."
The substance was always bloody and meaty, but Slade says the pragmatics of the whole ordeal were anything but easy. He feels exhausted just thinking about the experience.
"It was a 50-day shoot, with many 16-hour days," he says.
To make things even more challenging, the cast was losing itself in its own Twilight cosmos. All actors have to surrender to their roles and inhabit their characters to some degree for the duration of production, so Slade was pleased his cast was taking the whole project seriously and sincerely.
Everyone was committed, he says.
"Kristen, in particular, was very tough on herself."
Slade says because Stewart didn't pull from her own life and her own person to play Bella Swan, she found it personally demanding to find Bella's truth.
"She would say, 'I don't know who Bella is to me.' In a lot of ways, I think she felt Bella was the antithesis to her, which presented a lot of challenges for Kristen. . . . She would beat herself up about it, because she wants to be there. She never wants to leave a scene undone.
"There were tears," says Slade.
"But you move on and you keep going. . . . Even in rehearsals with Rob (Pattinson), there was a similar spiralling that would happen."
Actors are people. They get insecure, and any human being facing the weight of expectation surrounding Twilight would have to buckle, if only a little. To offset as much of the thespian obsessing as possible, Slade says he's learned the value of preparation.
He says he rehearses his actors as much as possible, so they're comfortable with the material and their characters, and he gets to focus on the minutiae of performance without the intrusive presence of a camera.
"You're always looking to get the emotional truth from the performance," he says. And with Twilight, that emotional truth is nothing less than the blood-red heart of romantic love — which pounds away in Slade's heart, even though, at 41, he's supposed to be a member of a more cynical generation.
"I do believe in romantic love. How could you not, if you're lucky enough to find it? It seems like we live in a much more sarcastic . . . cynical culture, and I don't like to use the c-word. There's the idea out there maybe that (romantic love) isn't cool. But true love is a wonderful thing."
Slade says romantic love is the gooey hook on the Twilight narrative, but after reading Stephenie Myers' books, he also feels they address a lot more issues than mere vampires and teen romance.
"It's a love story that's dealing with the problems of the last century," he says. "And I got the best book. We had the epic battle, the action . . . the whole thing."
Slade says he's leaving at a high point in the story, and that's one of the other big lessons he's learned along the way: Preparation will save your bacon, but timing is what makes it tasty.
He'd love to share what he's doing next, Slade says, but he can't. At the very least, we can rest assured it will be interesting, well-prepared and approached with an open heart and a vampire-proof carotid.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart sexiest couple in Rio, Brazil!
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are the toast of the town in Rio, Brazil these days as they are in town to film the next Twilight Film, Breaking Dawn.
Rob and Kristen have been followed around just as much if not more by the Brazilian tabloids then they have been in Hollywood. They were spotted going out for dinner and drinks, pictures were taken of them getting in and out of cars, going in and out of their hotels and arriving for filming among many other things. Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart just can't get away from the tabloids even when they are on a different continent.
It seems that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may be more famous outside of the US then they are in it. In England Robert Pattinson is a national hero and in Brazil Kristen Stewart appears to be considered some kind of goddess based on how the entertainment TV shows are talking about her down there.
Where ever these two go they are showered with praise and adored. There is no doubt that Rob and Kristen are truly the hottest couple in Hollywood. They just may be the hottest couple Hollywood has ever had.

Twilight Breaking Dawn Schedule; Shooting Begins Monday

Twilight fans have reason to celebrate as production on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2 kicks off this Monday, November 8 according to Production Weekly. Spy photos from the various on-location sets are sure to hit the web shortly thereafter.
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the Breaking Dawn team will be shooting continuously until April 22, 2011 on the two-part finale to Stephanie Meyer's book series-turned-movies. Confirmed shooting locations include Louisiana, Brazil and Vancouver, and possibly other locations for stints with the international vampires covens a strong possibility.
The April wrap sets the stage for the first Breaking Dawn trailer to possibly appear in San Diego at Comic-Con 2011. If that happens the crowd madness will reach epic proportions.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 opens everywhere November 18th, 2011, while Part 2 is set for November 16, 2012.

Kellan Lutz talks 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn'
Breaking Dawn Birth Scene: "I Love the Way They're Showing It," Says Kellan Lutz
Let the countdown begin. Cameras are pretty close to rolling on Breaking Dawn.
"We start sometime in October and go all the way through to late April," Kellan Lutz says. "I just did a [wardrobe fitting] and a contact lenses test."
As for that much anticipated, hard-to-imagine birthing scene...
Lutz cracked, "I think they should show it and have Emmett in the background laughing."
Joking aside, Lutz says he knows what director Bill Condon has planned for the potentially gory sequence. "I love the way that they're showing it," he said.
"I really thought that was going to be really a tough thing to show."
Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg recently told us the birth of baby Renesmee won't necessarily be gruesome. "I don't think it's about the amount of blood you show," she said. "It's about the intensity of it. It's on their faces. It's all from Bella's point of view when you're seeing what's going. It should feel visceral. I think it's going to be pretty intense."

This 1 song off KOL's new Album 'Come Around Sundown' turned the DH into a FAN!
My wonderful husband for part of my anniversary present took me to see Kings of Leon Monday night 9/20/10 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater just outside of Birmingham, AL - he has never understood my obsession with KOL, simply saying he really did not care for their music - now this is a man that LOVES music of many different genres!!!
My daughter turned me on to KOL, long before that infamous night in Vancouver last year, and I had been loving them for almost a year prior to that concert! My daughter and I saw KOL at the BJCC in Birmingham last October - and I can easily say, that was one of the very best concerts I had ever seen (and I have seen a lot of concerts!!!) Well let me tell you Monday night blew that concert from last October out of the water!!!!
My husband really was not looking forward to this concert - grumbling each time I brought up the date, talked about the concert etc. I just kept saying to him "just wait until you see them, you will enjoy the show"
So Monday rolls around, we leave work early in the afternoon, head out to Pelham for the show, with the DH still complaining......Well the Whigs take the stage, then The Black Keys (he was impressed with their muscianship) and then KOL takes the stage! Surprisingly I look over and right off the bat he is taking pictures on his cell phone - I HAVE HOPE now!!! And then the 4th song of the night begins and all of a sudden he is standing up!!! WHAT???? Could he be interested????? Well to be totally honest, I really don't know, because at that point, I was too into the concert!!! Let's just say, I'm hoping he's enjoying the show, because I was loving it! I thought last October's concert was good ---well this concert was AWESOME! KOL was rocking the house!!!!
FAST FORWARD -- I get home from the office last night and the DH has a late night on Tuesday evenings so he's still at his work - so finally he gets home and I'm uploading pics from the concert to my blog. He immediately starts asking me what the name of this one song was. OMG -- I don't know!!! WHAT???? I don't know which song he's talking about????? I spend the next couple of hours trying to research which song it could be - well to no avail, I just don't know! (I know bad FANGIRL).
Well this morning I'm at the office and I get the following text from the hubs!:
"the song is called MARY. love that song. the rest is just ok to good. this song mary is the best thing I've heard since BEAST OF BURDEN. If they did more like that...I would get a Mary tattoo and wear their t-shirts. Can't believe you didn't know it had to be this song...MARY" (SIDE NOTE THE HUBS CURRENTLY HAS NO TATTOO)
OMG - the DH is loving KOL!!! My son calls me this afternoon and tells me I've created a monster that ever since he got home this afternoon his daddy has been blaring KOL songs!!! TOTAL WIN!!!!
So please enjoy that song that has made my husband a TRUE KOL FAN!!!!

I can't say it enough!!! KOL rocked the house last night at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater!!! I saw these guys last October and thought it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen (and I've been to my share of concerts); but last night they ROCKED IT!!!!!

’The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ filming location date details revealed - National Twilight | Examiner.com
More recent news indicates they may be back building Bella's house sooner. Last week (September 8th) I offered a backwards Movie Location Tour and started the Tour off in Surrey. My guests wanted to visit the location of Bella's House even though there was nothing at that location.
Upon our arrival I spotted two very familiar production people at the site speaking with a third woman. I recognized Abraham Fraser, the locations manager with New Moon and Eclipse and his assistant who was ever present at Kerry Park during the construction of Bella's House and the subsequent dismantling of the house.
I knew they had booked Kerry Park well into 2011 and it was just our good luck to see these production people ironing out the finer details of the contracts to build Bella's house once more.
It takes about three weeks to construct Bella's House and two weeks to tear it down.
I was interested in the timeline of construction. The group confirmed to me they would be back in January. North Shore Studios said they were setting up offices but nothing is listed at the B.C. Film Commission or the Directors Guild of Canada. They are flying under the radar.
My sources have confirmed the only role they were casting a few weeks ago was that of Renessme at an older age.
A new nugget of information came to light yesterday when I was told the Cullen House had been shipped to the sound stage in Baton Rouge and is currently under constructed. You may recall the Cullen mansion was a perfect replica to the famed "Nike House" near Portland Oregon. It was build at Canada Motion Picture Park in Burnaby for all the interior Cullen house scenes. It would have been nice to have the house constructed at the same location but unfortunatley for us in Vancouver, that did not happen.
Other sources have confirmed they will not be using Jacob Black's house until the new year.
